Coneplast - to prevent initial slag carry over!
The
ConeplastTM system is a newly developed system to prevent the
initial slag to be poured out from the converter at the beginning of the tapping. At the beginning of the tapping process,
a quantity of slag will run through the taphole. In order to
reduce the quantity of slag the taphole is temporarily closed which allows the
slag to be kept from the taphole at the tapping
beginn.
The
ConeplastTM system reduces the slag carryover to a
minimum.Effective slag
control should result in better refractory performance of the tap hole and ladle
lining and other refractories used in down
line secondary treatment stations.
The
ConeplastTM system will prevent any slag entering the taphole
on tilting the vessel regardless of the wear pattern or type of the
taphole. With the help of an installation applicator the plug is pushed from
outside of the converter into the hot region at the end of
the taphole and with help of the applicator squeezed so that the taphole is
completely plugged. On tilting the
converter only steel comes into contact with the plug at the top of the
taphole.
The
ConeplastTM stopper breaks down by the Ferro static pressure
in a very short time leaving a clean taphole.
Advantages of the ConeplastTM system
- Protection
of the tapping steel against slag contamination - approx. 500 kgs of slag can be
retained giving lower oxygen and phosphorus levels. Some users
claim a reduction of 0.3-1.0 phosphorus-points in the steel
analysis.
Taphole kept free of slag and steel during
blowing.
- Increase of
taphole life up to 5 heats.
- Control of
initial surge of steel stream.
Breakdown of plug by Ferro static pressure can be adjusted from
between 5 and 45 seconds.
- No
deterioration in performance if plug is left in taphole for prolonged
periods.
- Customers
report increase of ladle bottom life of between 5-8 heats and increased lifetime
of the ladle lining as a result that the
steel stream did not hit the ladle lining during the tapping
process.
- Higher rate
of ladle opening.
- Cleaner
ladle top.
- Environmentally friendly due to the reduction of air pollution from the
taphole.
